Rare melanistic Ural Owl rescued in Slovenia

A rare melanistic Ural Owl has been taken into care after colliding with a glass building in Slovenia.
The melanistic Ural Owl (Tjaša Zagoršek / BirdLife Slovenia).
The bird was found on the night of Saturday 18 September and the finder informed Mitja Denaca, who took it to the bird clinic of Ljubljana's Veterinary Science faculty for treatment. It is hoped the owl makes a full recovery and is released back into the wild.
Approximately 10-15% of Ural Owls in southern Slovenia are melanistic.
