Goshawk shot dead in Forest of Dean

A Eurasian Goshawk has been shot dead in the Forest of Dean – a well-known national hot-spot for the species – with police appealing for information.

The adult bird was found near Kempley on 27 February, according to Gloucestershire Police. An x-ray was taken of the goshawk, which was ringed, and showed an air rifle pellet has broken its hip.

Police appeal

Gloucestershire Police's rural crime team said: "Goshawks are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 which means it is an offence to intentionally kill, injure or take any wild bird.

"This sort of offence is taken seriously and if anyone has any information we would be keen to hear from them. If you have any information please Contact Gloucestershire Police Rural Crime Team on 101."
