Falconiformes differ from the eagles and hawks of the Accipitriformes in that they kill with their beaks, rather than their taloned feet, and have a "tooth" on the side of their beak for the purpose. They also tend to have narrower wings than the hawks, buzzards, eagles and vultures of the Accipitriformes. They range in size from the tiny Black-thighed Falconet to the hefty Gyrfalcon, and have a cosmopolitan distribution. The Peregrine is perhaps the archetypal falcon – fast-flying and powerful.
