Eurasian Sparrowhawk and Ringed Plover by Meurig Garbett

 

 

For the second time in 2022, the awesome predatory skills of a Eurasian Sparrowhawk are acutely demonstrated by a Photo of the Week winner. And, as in April's winner by Dave Jackson, the hunted is a wader: this time a juvenile Ringed Plover.

Meurig's opportunistic capture demonstrates the rawness of nature, with the hapless plover's bill open wide conveying a sense of shock and horror at the situation it finds itself in. This must have been a thrilling if poignant event to watch for Meurig, who remained calm and composed to 'nail' the shot. Congratulations!
