Ruff and Northern Lapwing by Dennis Morrison

Thanks to the mirror-like water conditions, this image certainly makes you look twice. Is it the right way around?! The answer to that question is of course 'yes', but the calm surface has created some very convincing reflections! Dennis Morrison was in position to capture this highly unusual image of a juvenile Ruff being 'photobombed' by a Northern Lapwing – only the lapwing isn't actually in the shot, rather its reflection is. Confused yet? We certainly were, at least momentarily! Dennis has cropped this image well to frame the action nicely and it must've brought a smile to his face when reviewing his images in the field – this is a POTW winner to be proud of.
