A 47-year-old man from the Wrexham area has been charged with attempting to capture Eurasian Goshawks using a cage trap.

Goshawk is protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Eurasian Goshawk is afforded the highest level of legal protection for a bird in the UK (Robert Mitchell).

Charged with the possession and use of a trap for killing or taking a wild bird, the man is set to appear before Wrexham Magistrates Court on 28 March.

North Wales Police says its rural crime team is committed to pursuing individuals engaging in wildlife-targeting activities, in collaboration with the RSPB and the National Wildlife Crime Unit.
