Kathmandu Pocket-it Rain Jacket

Equipment space being at a premium for many birders these days, the less weight and room taken up by clothes the better.

This affordable 100 per cent nylon outer, men's zip-up rain jacket folds into its own 'Pack & Go' pocket for space and convenience but has other features that make it stand out from the pac-a-macs. Long sleeved with elastic cuffs for insulation and external moisture resistance, the garment has a zipped chin guard and hand pockets, internal 100 per cent polyester mesh 'secret' pockets and a hem with a draw cord. The raglan sleeves extend in one piece from the cuff hole to the neckline, and the hood is adjustable by a draw string.

Though the seams are not sealed, they are strategically positioned to avoid most run-off and are mostly bound with a waterproof shell fabric. This results in good water repellence, and also produces a decent amount of wind resistance, added to by a dropped back hem. The coat is allegedly water proof to 1.5m and fully breathable

There is a key fob attached to one pocket, completing the roll call of features that add up to a reliable lightweight (at about 290 grams) and eminently portable rain-proof windcheater. Ideal for birding in most conditions.
